What Happens If I Click “Create Custom Order” in Etsy?
When you create a custom order in Etsy, Etsy and ProfitTree handle that order in a specific and expected way.
What Happens on Etsy
When you click Create Custom Order in Etsy:
Etsy generates a new listing specifically for that custom order
The listing is unique and tied only to that order
This allows Etsy to process the sale as a standalone item.
What Happens in ProfitTree
After the custom order is created:
ProfitTree automatically syncs the new listing from Etsy
The listing appears as a new product in ProfitTree
Because the product is new, it initially has no COGS assigned
This behavior is expected and not an error.
What You Need to Do
To ensure accurate profit tracking:
Manually enter the COGS for the custom product when it appears in ProfitTree
Once COGS are added, ProfitTree will calculate profit normally for that order
Summary
Custom orders in Etsy create brand-new listings. ProfitTree imports these listings automatically, but you must manually add COGS the first time they appear to ensure accurate reporting.
