What Happens If I Click “Create Custom Order” in Etsy?

When you create a custom order in Etsy, Etsy and ProfitTree handle that order in a specific and expected way.

What Happens on Etsy

When you click Create Custom Order in Etsy:

  • Etsy generates a new listing specifically for that custom order

  • The listing is unique and tied only to that order

This allows Etsy to process the sale as a standalone item.

What Happens in ProfitTree

After the custom order is created:

  • ProfitTree automatically syncs the new listing from Etsy

  • The listing appears as a new product in ProfitTree

  • Because the product is new, it initially has no COGS assigned

This behavior is expected and not an error.

What You Need to Do

To ensure accurate profit tracking:

  • Manually enter the COGS for the custom product when it appears in ProfitTree

  • Once COGS are added, ProfitTree will calculate profit normally for that order

Summary

Custom orders in Etsy create brand-new listings. ProfitTree imports these listings automatically, but you must manually add COGS the first time they appear to ensure accurate reporting.
