Does ProfitTree Work for International Sellers, VAT, and Different Currencies?

This article explains how ProfitTree works for international sellers, including currency requirements, VAT limitations, advertising data behavior, and Printify-related constraints.

Updated this week

Does ProfitTree Work for International Sellers?

Yes — ProfitTree works for international Etsy sellers. However, there are important limitations you should be aware of before using the platform.

These limitations are primarily due to how Etsy, payment processors, and third-party integrations report data through their APIs.

Shop Currency Must Match Your Local Bank Currency

ProfitTree pulls data from two sources:

  • Etsy order data

  • Etsy account ledger data

If your Etsy shop currency does not match your local bank currency, ProfitTree may mix currencies in reports, leading to inaccurate results.

Example

  • Local bank currency: GBP

  • Etsy shop currency: USD

In this case:

  • Orders appear in USD

  • Ledger transactions appear in GBP

  • ProfitTree cannot reliably convert or reconcile the data

Requirement

To ensure accurate reporting:

  • Your Etsy shop currency must match your local bank currency

What If My Local Currency Is Different From My Etsy Account Currency?

If your local currency differs from your Etsy shop currency:

  • Orders and ledger data will appear in different currencies

  • Financial metrics may become inaccurate

  • ProfitTree cannot auto-convert these values reliably

This is a known limitation and currency conversion support is planned, but not yet available.

VAT Tax Support

At this time, ProfitTree does not automatically calculate or account for VAT.

Why:

  • VAT rules vary widely by country

  • VAT treatment differs by seller type

  • Etsy reports VAT inconsistently across regions

While VAT support is a high-priority roadmap item, there is no confirmed release timeline.

Advertising Tab Currency Limitations

For international sellers:

  • Etsy provides advertising data in USD only

  • This applies regardless of your shop’s local currency

  • ProfitTree displays ad data exactly as Etsy provides it

As a result:

  • You may see ad spend in USD even if your shop uses another currency

  • This can cause apparent mismatches in reporting

This is an Etsy API limitation and not something ProfitTree can control.

Printify & International Sellers

If you use the Printify integration and your shop or bank currency is not USD:

  • Printify sends product and shipping costs in USD only

  • ProfitTree cannot automatically convert those costs

  • Profit calculations may appear inaccurate

This limitation exists due to restrictions in both the Etsy and Printify APIs.

Bottom Line for International Sellers

ProfitTree works for international sellers, with limitations if:

  • Your shop currency does not match your local bank currency

  • You require automatic VAT tracking

  • You expect ad spend reported in your local currency

  • You use Printify with a non-USD setup

We aim to be transparent so you know exactly what to expect before relying on ProfitTree for financial decisions.

Summary

ProfitTree supports international Etsy sellers, but accurate reporting requires matching currencies and manual handling of VAT and certain costs. Some limitations are driven by Etsy and third-party API constraints and are actively being evaluated for future improvements.
