Understand Our Advertisement Report
The Advertisement Report in ProfitTree helps you understand how your Etsy Ads are performing by showing ad spend, sales attribution, and advertising efficiency metrics for listings that incurred ad spend during the selected time period.
This report relies on Etsy data combined with the ProfitTree Chrome extension to surface advertising insights.
How to Use the ProfitTree Advertisement Tab
Video walkthrough:
This video provides an overview of the Advertisement Tab layout, available metrics, and how to navigate the report.
Step 1: Integrate Your Etsy Shop
Before using the Advertisement Report, make sure your Etsy shop is fully connected to ProfitTree.
Complete the Etsy integration
Allow the initial data sync to finish
This integration is required for all advertising metrics.
Step 2: Install the ProfitTree Chrome Extension
The Advertisement Report requires the ProfitTree Chrome Extension.
Download the free extension from the Chrome Web Store
Add the extension to your Chrome browser
Log into the same Etsy account in Chrome that you are analyzing in ProfitTree
This allows the extension to correctly match your Etsy Ads data to your ProfitTree account.
Step 3: Sync Your Advertisement Data
To sync your ad data:
Open the ProfitTree Chrome Extension
Ensure you are logged into the correct Etsy account
Toggle to the matching account in ProfitTree
Click Sync inside the Chrome extension
Important notes:
The Sync button currently exists inside the Chrome extension, not the web app
Only historical data starting from yesterday will appear
Data for “Today” is not available because ProfitTree requires a full day of ad spend to calculate metrics
If the sync is successful, the Chrome extension will display a confirmation message.
Metrics in the Advertisement Report
The Advertisement Report displays only listings that had ad spend during the selected time period.
Ad Spend
The total amount spent on Etsy on-site ads for each listing.
This value matches what you see in Etsy’s Marketing tab.
TACoS (Total Advertising Cost of Sale)
Formula:
TACoS = Ad Spend ÷ Total Sales
TACoS helps you understand how much of your revenue is being spent on advertising.
Higher TACoS → ads are taking up a larger share of sales
Lower TACoS → ads are more cost-efficient
Tracking TACoS over time helps you evaluate advertising efficiency.
ROAS (Return on Ad Spend)
The Break-Even ROAS column is still under development.
You can currently view Break-Even ROAS in Listing Reports.
Total Sales Breakdown
Each listing includes a breakdown of where sales came from:
Ad Revenue from Listing: Sales from customers who clicked an ad and purchased that listing
Ad Revenue from Other Listings: Sales from customers who clicked an ad but purchased a different item
Listing Organic Revenue: Sales not attributed to ads
Hover over the Total Sales or Total Orders columns to view this breakdown.
Best Practices for the Advertisement Tab
Best practices video:
This video covers common workflows and tips for reviewing ad performance inside ProfitTree.
Target TACoS
Many sellers track a target TACoS based on their profit margins. Monitoring this metric over time can help you understand whether advertising costs are trending up or down relative to sales.
Monitor Overall Performance
Use the Advertisement Report alongside:
Dashboard metrics
Listing Reports
Product Reports
This helps ensure you’re considering both paid and organic sales together.
Important Limitations
Due to Etsy limitations, the Advertisement Report displays values in USD only for international sellers
This may cause differences when comparing to local currency reports in Etsy
Upcoming Features
The following features are planned but not yet available:
Break-Even ROAS column inside the Advertisement Report
COGS-based automation for break-even calculations
Summary
The Advertisement Report helps you understand how Etsy Ads impact your shop by showing ad spend, sales attribution, and efficiency metrics in one place. When combined with accurate COGS and other ProfitTree reports, it provides valuable insight into your advertising performance.
