It’s normal to be cautious when you’re trusting a tool to analyze your Etsy shop data. At ProfitTree, we built our platform to give sellers accurate, transparent insights — not “fluffy” numbers. Here’s how you can be confident that what you see inside ProfitTree is real.
1. Direct Integration With Etsy Data
ProfitTree connects directly to your Etsy account through Etsy’s official API. That means every order, ad spend, and fee we show you comes directly from Etsy itself — not guesses, not scraped data, but the same source Etsy uses to run your shop.
2. Clear Calculation Methods
One of the frustrations sellers have with Etsy’s built-in dashboards is that they don’t always break things down in a way that makes sense for business decisions.
ProfitTree is different:
Revenue
Fees
COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) = Entered by you, so you stay in control.
Profit & TACoS = Calculated with simple, transparent formulas you can see explained inside the app.
3. Side-by-Side Verification
Want to double-check? You can always export your Etsy CSVs and compare them against ProfitTree’s analytics. You’ll see the numbers line up — we simply present them in a more usable way for sellers.
The way we display metrics is not always 100% aligned with how Etsy reports them in their dashboards.
It’s always best to pull a report from your Etsy account ledger and compare it using the same logic ProfitTree applies for each metric. Every metric is fully explained in our Help Center > HERE
Here are a few example:
ProfitTree Net Sales includes-
Gross Sales: Total sales amount before discounts, shipping collected, refunds, sales tax, and gift wrapping.
Shipping Collected:
If the customer paid for shipping and handling, this is the total. If shipping is refunded or the order is canceled, that is reflected under Refunds.
Discounts: The total amount of discounts you gave.
Refunds: The total amount refunded of the sale price recorded on the date the sale happened.
This includes credits from refunds with sales tax or VAT.
Etsy Stats Revenue (from Shop Stats)-
Etsy’s revenue is calculated by subtracting discounts from total sales.
It does not include:
Shipping collected
Fully refunded or canceled orders
Etsy Ads-
On Etsy:
Etsy ad spend is shown based on when they were incurred.
On ProfitTree:
Ad spend is shown based on when it is billed to your ledger since this is the truth of how much was actually billed and at what time.
4. Trusted by Real Etsy Sellers
ProfitTree wasn’t built in a vacuum. Thousands of Etsy sellers actively use it to track profitability and make ad spend decisions every day. Their feedback helps us continuously refine the accuracy of reporting.
5. Security & Transparency
Your Etsy shop data is yours. ProfitTree only uses it to provide analytics — we never sell or share your information. We’re committed to being as transparent with our calculations as we expect Etsy to be with theirs. It would be highly illegal to use a sellers internal data for public use and this does not match our integrity.
